So, you are saying that this is normal and desired behavior: ![]() I'm just a dumb Windows user but I am quite used to applications with multiple windows. GIMP's multi-window display definitely confuses me. You should be able to click on the open application tab in the task bar to bring your GIMP to the front (to activate the focus). When you maximize, press the tab again to see the open docks/toolbar again. What you need to do is press the tab key before minimizing the main window, the open docks/toolbar will disappear. When you minimize GIMP however, the Tool box and other docks stay open (which is a nuissance), but this is how it is designed to work. I have been using gimp for quite a while, and I've found the easiest way for me to work it in Windows is to set your preferences as follows: click EDIT > PREFERENCES > WINDOW MANAGEMENTĬhoose Hint for the toolbox: Utility Window GIMP's multi window display can confuse people, particularly Windows users who are not used to applications with multiple windows. There is a small bug (at least in XP) though: When you re-show the dialogs, focus is on the toolbox and you have to Alt-Tab to the main window. Use the Tab key to hide/show all dialogs. I have this as well, but if you right click the gimp page in the taskbar, it will often open on top of the other windows. I've tweaked everything I could in 'Preferences', but nothing seems to work - gah !! ![]() I'm having the same problem on Linux (Mint-9), its a pain in the *&%$. It's a pain having to shrink all the other windows before working on an image. Good question - I was wondering the same thing. ![]() I am using Windows 7, but this happened on XP also.Įven when GIMP is selected, the main window hides behind other applications while the layers dialog and the tool box appear in front.
